Victoria Texas Murder, Manslaughter & Self-Defense Defense

Richard Hinds, Esq., P.I., Criminal Defense Attorney and Licensed Private Investigator (P.I.) Serving Victoria, DeWitt (Cuero), Gonzales, Goliad, Refugio, Calhoun (Port Lavaca), and Jackson (Edna) Counties, Texas.

Overview

If you’re being investigated for—or have been charged with—murder, manslaughter, or a fatal use of force in self-defense, you are in the legal fight of your life. These cases don’t just carry the threat of a conviction. They carry the possibility of life in prison—or worse. You need a trial-tested attorney with the courage to stand between you and the full power of the State.

I’m Richard Hinds, and I’ve been defending clients in the most serious criminal cases Texas has to offer for over 27 years. I’m also one of fewer than 20 attorneys in the entire state who are dual-licensed as a professional Private Investigator. That means I don’t just take the State’s case at face value—I dissect it. I investigate independently, reexamine the scene, challenge the forensics, and prepare to win a trial the prosecution thought would be an easy conviction.

Types of Fatal Charges I Defend

  • Murder (First or Second Degree)

  • Capital Murder (Death Penalty Certified)

  • Felony Murder / Murder During Commission of Another Crime

  • Manslaughter / Criminally Negligent Homicide

  • Intoxication Manslaughter

  • Self-Defense / Defense of Others

  • Castle Doctrine / Stand Your Ground Cases

  • “Failure to Retreat” and Use of Deadly Force Allegations

Whether the incident involved a weapon, a vehicle, or a physical confrontation, I build a defense rooted in facts—not fear.

I Investigate Fatal Cases Like a Crime Scene Expert—Because I Am One

In these cases, the State will deploy every tool it has: forensics teams, crime scene analysts, digital evidence units, autopsy results, and expert witnesses. Most defense attorneys are at their mercy. I’m not. I own a licensed investigative agency with a team that includes a former law enforcement officer and certified paramedic. We understand trauma, weapons, blood evidence, timelines, and cause of death—often better than the prosecution’s own experts.

I get out ahead of the State’s version of events. We locate our own witnesses, reconstruct the timeline, subpoena surveillance footage, analyze cell phone data, and expose weaknesses in their narrative. I prepare every murder or manslaughter case like a full-blown trial from day one—because that’s what it takes to win, or to earn the kind of plea that keeps you out of prison.

If It Was Self-Defense, I’ll Prove It

Texas law protects your right to defend yourself, your home, and others—but only if your attorney knows how to apply those protections in court. I’ve defended clients where the Castle Doctrine, Stand Your Ground, or mutual combat laws applied—and won. If you were defending your life or someone else’s, I’ll bring that truth into the light. The State doesn’t get to rewrite what happened. We will.

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late—Your Defense Starts Now

Murder and manslaughter cases require an immediate response. If you’ve been arrested, are being questioned, or suspect you’re under investigation—do not speak to law enforcement. Say nothing. Then call me.
